As part of the Monster Chair series, and from the artist’s vision of the afterlife, come ferocious faces surrounding a festive table where 12 muses from his life dine, laugh and play. From a fantastical fear of eternal damnation comes objects of beauty and relaxation reminding of the threat of eternal torture for our mistreatment of those closest to us. The faces of the 7 monsters are embroidered on the backrest of each chair. This set of 7 Monster Chairs were specially designed for the exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in 2014.
